Every year, the strangest group of automotive enthusiasts gather at Woodley Park in California to show off their odd, obscure, rare French and Italian metal. It’s no Ferrari show, but the result is almost always far more impressive.
One of the most stunning cars there was this spectacular Facel Vega. The red leather interior was a great contrast to the nicely restored silver exterior. I love the wrap around design of the dash too.
As with any show like this, the parking lot is almost the best part. This Bavaria had some great wear/patina.
This Porsche appeared both stunning, but also well used. The vented rear windows were a nice touch.
This stunning 2000 Roadster was at the far end of the lot. It was a very nice example, and I love the in grill lights.
A Countryman! Even this extended wheelbase Mini could barely take up 2/3 of a parking spot.
Morgan Three Wheeler!!!! I’m still a bit torn on whether I like these or not. The interior just seemed....cheap.
One of the most beat up Citroen CX I’ve ever seen. Still would 10/10 would daily drive.
I think this is a Viggen? Maybe a Saab expert can fill me in.
One LOOONG car, one short. Now, to the actual show
The Caravelle is a very unorthodox looking car. It’s similar in style to an Apmhicar
Some nice, minty Alfas.
The Bora is not a very loved Maserati, and I’m also not a fan. The BiTurbo on the right was in better than factory shape.
The XM is an extraordinarily rare car, and this was only the first or second time I’ve ever seen one.
Citroen has some of the best interior designs ever.
Ah, the car named after it’s drive wheels, the Citroen Traction Avant
On the list of obscure manufacturers, we have Matra. This Murina is unusual because of it’s stock, 3 abreast seating.
Some of the stars of the show were in this line up. It included 3 R5 Turbo IIs and one R5 Turbo I
Note the added reflectors on this previously federalized example.
The Turbo I looks very similar to the Turbo II, but the interiors are VERY different. The Turbo I’s is far more....80s.
This SM truck was towing a matching twin turbo SM speed record car, which had inboard brakes (which, while looking so damn cool, got rid of so much more room to work in the engine bay).
Of course there were a few 2CVs. The owner of one was kind enough to to show off just how much travel there was in the suspension by pushing down on the bumper and making the car drop roughly 8 inches.
I mean, sort of Italian?
I saw this drive down the street before I got into the show and actually let out an audible scream. It’s a 205 T16, basically a more insane, AWD, 205 GTI-based equivalent of the R5 Turbo.
There were a shocking 3 Tatras attending, one pre war example, one during war, and one post war.
Quite shaken Martini!
I honestly don’t remember what this car is, only that it was absolutely stunning.
The owner of this Ferrari NAILED it going down the street before entering the show and it sounded spectacular.
This would be the coolest thing if it was an Abarth. Sadly, it was a 500E.
Double bubble Abarth! Such a tiny racer.
My friend Matt arrived driving my friend Marc’s 205 GTI
Marc’s 403 is on the left.
Another later 403 showed up later on. The one on the left is a 64, the one on the right is a 59.
404: Gorgeous Peugeot coupé found.
The 850 (?) is such a pretty little car. I love the swollen front fenders.
A Lancia Delta! Quite the unusual site in California. Unfortunately, this one was an 8V model.
The Jalpa, one of the least desirable Lamborghinis, is actually pretty damn cool. The Espadas next to it are pretty stunning too.
Fire Camino?
Another ‘Camino in the parking lot.
Another Matra, this one a Djet. It is somewhat reminiscent of a taller Alpine A110
You may recognize this car from Petrolicious. It sounded so, so great.

Yep, it’s a Viggen! On aftermarket wheels though. Here’s my Pop’s:
Fun fact! The body kit on the Viggen (front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper, spoiler) were designed by the Jag/Aston master himself, Mr. Ian Callum!

Fun, random tidbit:
I had the distinct pleasure of working for Andy Green Sports and Vintage Racecars in Savannah, Georgia for a month about 10 years ago. While I was there, he had an in-progress Facel Vega waiting to be finished.
I hate to admit, but did accidentally scratch the paint on an original Shelby Cobra one day while working next to it. I still cringe thinking about it.
So my first day on the job, guy drops off his Ferrari 575. It’s in limp mode, and he doesn’t know why. Andy’s shop is licensed to work on Ferrari’s, so it saves the owner a tow all the way to the dealer in Atlanta. The other tech takes a look over the 575, there were a couple of hesitant test drives around the industrial complex where the shop was located. I got back to the menial work I was entrusted with.
As I am leaving, I ask Andy if they figured out what was wrong with the 575. He said yeah, the owner left the parking brake engaged. Then he says, hop in.
He proceeds to blast that thing around the cul-de-sac at the end of the complex. I am certain we hit triple digits passing by parked semi trailers and fences. Car sounded amazing.
I quit a month later. (Longer story. Yes, there was a girl involved. Said girl is not my wife.)

10/10 would buy even though not Integrale. Proceed to confuse the hell out of most Californians who think it’s a Golf.

This is basically a show of all my wants. I should go someday; pity it’s so far from the Bay Area. Perhaps in twenty years I can be the first to bring a C6 to the show, unless that guy from New York comes over first...
or an Avantime...
or a 406 Coupe, then it would be both French and Italian...

Is it perhaps an OSI-Ford 20 M TS ?
The license plate suggests this as well.
